Running out of gas at 1/4 tank

I have a 93 2.5l and Twice I've ran out of gas after going just a hair under a 1/4 tank. Has anyone had problems like this or know what the problem might be?

I haven't run out of gas, but it's funny I have the opposite problem. When my tank looks like it's running on fumes, I go to fill up and I still have a qtr tank left. I read somewhere on here that if you take the gauge out and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser it helps our gas gauge run better. I haven't done it yet, but I plan to soon

My '90 goes empty just below 1/4 tank.

If I run mine just under a 1/4 tank it will leave you walking.the day I bought mine I run out driving it home.don't know why but when it gets to that point from then on I put gas in it

I have the same issue, the gas gauge stops at just below a quarter. I have had this Jeep for 16 years it has been doing it for at least 10...lol what I found is the skid plate for the gas tank is bent, keeps the sender arm from dropping all the way down. Because it is a plastic tank. I can see that the skid plate is bent up, all the way across from dragging the rear across rocks or whatever. I have cut the rear floor and made a little hatch that seals so I can replace the fuel pump without dropping the tank. Looking inside the tank i could see the sender arm hitting bottom before the tank was empty.

When mine gets below 3/4 tank the gauge starts bouncing and the closer it gets to 1/4 tank the worse it bounces, then when it gets to a 1/4 tank it goes to full and stays there till u put gas in it.

Pull the gas gauge off and sand the terminals clean. Fixed my 1/4 tank empty issue.
