Rust

I have a 94 and everyone is constantly telling me do do all kinds of different things to prevent rust. Everyone says it will be rusted in one winter (I just bought it this summer) and I just don't see it possible. It is already undercoated, do I need to do anything else for sure ?

If it doesnt have any rust on it right now, you should be okay. If you live in a state where they salt the roads and it rains or snows constantly...you might have a little bit of rust after winter, but nothing to go nuts about.

I live in Socal and going offroading puts a little surface rust on the under carriage. Even with a 2013..I just bought some POR-15 and will be sanding down/going over a few of the spots this weekend. I would reccomend you do that if you are concerned at all. A clear coat of inhibator after a fresh coat of POR15 should do the trick, and last you a few years. Here are the links

Amazon.com: POR-15 Rust Preventive Paint - Black - Pint: Automotive

Lps Laboratories 00316 LPS 3 Heavy-Duty Rust Inhibitor - Amazon.com

It's a jeep. If its solid now it will be solid after the winter. You are reading way more into this than necessary. But if you have problems now salt will definitely pop the rust into high gear.

You can prevent rust with proper and preventative maintence. Depending on how much you want to spend you can paint the whole underside with POR-15 as was mentioned earlier. If you are budget consience simply washing your vehicle often during the winter will help prevent rusting. You can try spray painting the underside with primer coating or truck bed liner which is cheaper than the POR-15.

I've heard of using Lin seed oil as undercoating. Because its made from a certain time if seed it's not a danger to the environment. My neighbor swears by it and said its worked for all his vehicles. Just to make sure u complete any painting that needs done first before then. Any one have experience with this???
