Sensor Question

93 YJ I changed the engine and the newer 1 doesn't have the threaded hole in the top of the head near the fire wall where this sensor was on the old. sensor looks like a small water temp sensor. is it one? it appears to be right above the rearmost exhaust manifold pipe. does someone KNOW what it is? I was TOLD it is another water tremp sensor and put it into the block plug but I want to be sure before doing that.

1 red wire only going to it.

Thanks in advance for any help

on some of the engines the temp sensor goes on top and on some it goes on the right hand side on the block. look for a threaded hole there.

there is a water temp sensor near the thermostat. but on the original engine there is another sensor at the rear of the head. single red wire as I said above. I just want to make sure it's not an exhaust gas temp sensor or something before I put it in the side of the block in the water. If it is in fact just another water temp sensor then the info I got was correct and the fix is easy. if it's not then I have to drill and tap the head in the same location or find another creative way to create the same input for the sensor.

know what I mean? I can't find this sensor described in the manual I have and hoped someone would be sure what it is. getting ready to put the body back on and this is one that will be easier while I have total access.

Thanks for the response chief

i just went out and checked my 94yj. i have the front sensor which sends temp information to the powertrain control module and the sensor you are describing which sends temp info to the temp gauge. my temp sensor has a purple/yellow wire not a red one. look around the block for a screw or bolt plugging a hole in the block.

There is an easy access plug on the side of the block. I just wanted to make sure it belongs in the water system.

Thanks for checking yours for me.
