This might be a dumb question, but I didn't install the lift on this Jeep. If I am replacing the shackles, do I match the amount of lift the Jeep has when shopping for the shackles? Example; 2.5" lift = 2.5" shackles. Thanks in advance.
No. Shackles themselves are a "lift". Usually they are poor quality and add issues. I'd recommend stock shackles or the highest quality lift shackles you can find. If you cheap out, you'll end up being sorry
Ok, so I know the Jeep has a lift of at least 2" because I had to measure for new shocks, but the shackles look stock. Would that be possible, to do a spring lift without changing shackles? Also, What is your opinion of the boomerang shackles I have seen posted here?
Yes, the shackles are a piece separate from the spring.
Boomerang shackles have sort of a vague use. They are supposed to prevent leaf inversion, but they probably will simply make it easier to fix an inverted spring.
I've inverted my spring and all you need is a hi lift jack and a medium to large sized pry bar. Luckily I was in a creek so there was rock bed for the jack to rest on. I doubt a boomerang shackle would have stopped that inversion, but it probably would have saved the shocks that were damaged when the axle bent back.
Great, thank you for your knowledge sir it helped me greatly.
