Angry Shift Motor Question

I have a `95 2.5 4 cyl. How can I tell if the shift motor or shift collar are bad? Driveshaft spins from t-case to front axle, but front wheels don't turn in 4x4. Axle is full of oil, no weird noises or shifting problems. Help!

unbolt the CAD from the axle and let it hang in the air. when you shift from 2wd to 4wd and vice versa, you should see the fork move back and forth. there is a sticky here somewhere that i think has the vacuum line diagram that will help you troubleshoot it.

C.A.D.= Center Axle Disconnect!

#1 is a baseball sized plastic ball, under the battery.
2 is on top of the drivers side of the transfer case.
4 is on the passenger side of the front axle,
just inboard of the leaf spring.
5 is on the fire wall near the battery.

Thanks for the really cool diagram. I used a really extreme method to fix my 4x problem....I traded it for a new Dodge Challenger. I'm purchasing another YJ, tomorrow.

Boy are you lucky, just so happens, I'm a Mopar fan!

Old E-bodies were my favorite too. I can get past your bailing on a simple fix, since it was a four banger too.

My CAD test was..... well, it's a whole 'nother story. (I may tell it)

Lets just say mine wasn't working either, & a $450.00 tow truck bill was narrowly averted. :mudhole: :no winch: :no 4X4:

Go ahead & get another YJ, (hope you are getting an I=6) You can't have this kind of fun in a muscle car. Trust me, I had several.

This time, don't be so quick to give up. Most fixes can be made cheaply enough if you don't mind heading to the junkyard.
