Shifter has play when in gear

Ive been noticing lately that when my truck is in gear it has play that moves side to aside a little but adn before it never had this? Also it feel like i have shorter clutch pulls now too...can someone help me.

I don't know about the side to side motion, maybe the linkage is loose? As for the short clutch check the fluid. It's the res next to the master cylinder, if it's low add some brake fluid and check the bellhousing for drips.

if you gained freeplay in pedal you likely have air and need to bleed clutch. as far as side to side movement...there are too many things that can affect that and with the little info you gave it could be mounts, loose shifter, engine misfire.

Well I went underneath and checked the tranny mount and its COMPLETLY shot so I'm assuming thats what the problem is?

Knowing which transmission you have, might help us if the mount doesn't cure the shifter.

My 1990 Yj has the 4.2l & AX15 trans. the shifter does move slightly from side to side. You can also twist it slightly, & move it up & down.

I wish it had a regular old school Hurst shifter, (bolts to the side of the trans.) I know how to tighten them up so they have zero play.
