Sliding window problem

Hi Guys,

Just got my Wrangler (1995), old but in good working condition, engine and body wise. It's been serviced and given the green light. Just a few jobs to do here and there.

I have a problem with a door window (full door). The window on the passenger side wont (always) hold. I could be driving and all of a sudden it will fall completely inside the door.

I'm not a mechanic, but I'm also a motorcycle rider and I do a lot of the work myself, changing parts, exhausts, air filters, handlebars, etc... so I am hands on and like to try and fix problems myself. But as this is my first car I'm a little unsure about how to tackle the problem with the window.

My first guess would be to remove the inside panel. Meaning I need to remove the handle and window lever, remove the clips (wedging it with a screwdriver?) and slide the leather cover off. Will doing this give me access to the inside of the door and window mechanism?

If any of you guys have had this or a similar problem before, what should I be looking for?

Thanks

Sinistro

First off, welcome to the forum.

Second NEVER, I mean NEVER, refer to your Jeep as a "car". It's bad karma. If you do it too much, your wheels will fall off.

Ok, seriously, your window tracks are possibly warped, or there may be a broken fastener allowing a track to move. Will the window roll right back up, or does it require help?

To get the crank handle off, there is a retaining clip with a sort of hourglass shape. You pull that and it the handle should slide off. There should be a plastic bushing/washer between the door panel and the clip.

Thanks for the advice, I took the door panel off and noticed that the lever had slipped off the window slide...just slipped it back on again and works fine.
This morning i fixed the tailgate lock. It would close properly but not lock. I dismantled it, gave it a good clean, a little WD40, put it back together and now the lock works, it still a bit rough but i will grease it up in the future...

Thanks a million for the advice friend!

PS: I promise never, ever to call my JEEP a c*r again

LOL, in most States, Jeeps have "Car" plates on them, It's Just A Car, Nothing More.
