Smart ideas for hard top mounting

Scored a hell of a deal on a banged up CJ7/YJ hard top yesterday for $100. All glass is intact. Lots of scuffs on the top that give it character, but overall very solid.

I get it home and discover a problem... all of the mounting holes that missing chunks of fiberglass where the bolt would go through. These aren't small chunks missing. I'm talking 1" to 2" wide gaps where the top looks eaten away. Guess I know where the bargain came in!

So, I'm looking for ideas to mount this top. I want it to be permanent (or mostly permanent). I was thinking silicon along the bead where it meets the body and then clamping two long pieces of aluminum the whole width of the top's inner lip on both sides and bolting through the aluminum. Is there a better idea?

Denis

Not yet. She is now 5 days overdue. The doctors won't try to induce until she's at least 2 weeks overdue. She's miserable

Understandable for sure. Must be a lot like waiting for FedEx to deliver jeep toys before 'tracking' was available. I hope you are a Dad of a healthy baby sometime this weekend. Good luck Pop.

Flip that dude upside down and fix the fiberglass. Cheap kit with cloth $10. You can use cardboard on the backside to firm the repair but cover the cardboard with Saran Wrap so it will release.

Yes the aluminum strip would be like OEM install.

Good luck with the baby thing and Congrats!!!

Google the repair and check YouTube. It's pretty easy and not real complicated. Shaping after repair by sanding and the a little spray paint.
