Smoking

Well this used motor I got from someone he said it ran fine for him he replaced it because he put a 350 in his I saw it too sweet rig but anyways I put it in mine finally got it running after some issues but now when its running in the little time it does it smokes out of places its not supposed to come out of like the valve cover but its also out of time which I have a buddy coming to time it for me tomorrow will the timing keep valves open? Or did I just put in a worn out engine he said it had around 60-70xxx miles on it or something around there not to sure.

Idk about timing makn it smoke, but, I think you got screwed! If it had 60-70kmi on it, it wouldn't be running that bad, unless it was tortured before u bought it!!!! I just recently pulled my 4.2 an put a 350. But my reason is I lost compression on 2 cyl.

positive crankcase ventilation ( pcv) valve is a valve that plugs into the top of the valve cover.it has a hose attached that goes to the manifold.if you are not getting that vacuum then smoke and oil will be escaping from many places on the engine

If I recall, 91 went to a different injection system and thus the pcm is different, this could be part of your problem as the pcm sets the timing etc.
