I have an 88 yj with a 4.2L in it. I recently started fixing little problems here and there but the 4WD seems to be the only issue left... i think. Before you read... just know that I'm a HOTROD kind of girl and this is my 1st 4WD and I'm trying to learn all I can and fix my JEEP myself.
Well it starts off that I reinstalled the vac resevior under the battery and hooked up the red line to the vac resevior and a vac source on the intake as well to the resevior.
I can get it into 4HI and it will stay and works perfectly fine.I put it back in 2HI (doesn't pop out or anything). When I try to put it in 4LO... if i wiggle the shifter it may work for a sec n then pop out or not engage. The 4WD light on the dash flickers while I'm wiggling the shifter but it wont stay in 4LO. I read in a few threads that it could be the shift motor or the actuator or there is a vac leak somewhere... UG... what should I be looking for?
I also have question about the posi-lok... when u install this in place of the vac system... do you still have 2H,4H & 4L... or do you not? I'm just asking because the description I found was vague and I would rather ask a JEEPER than anyone else... except for daddy, grandpa or my fiance'.
