Sound bar with hardtop

Ok so I have not seen this issue before at least not lately.

I have an 89 with a 2 piece hardtop when I have the sound bar installed I can not latch my top down the sound bar is too high to allow the connection I have tried stretching the latch connections they are not long enough to allow this.

I have tried reversing mounts on soundbar and mounting from underneath but my son and I are too tall for that.

I have tried key holing the bracket but that only gave about a half inch but did help slightly am I missing something obvious!

Has anyone else with a hardtop had an issue with their sound bar?

The only alternative is to install a "family style" roll bar into your 89.

That allows you to mount the sound bar on the back struts of the roll bar where it is supposed to be in the first place. Instead of on the windshield struts where you have it now.

I tried a sound bar on my 87 sport bar, although I have a 1-piece hardtop, the sound bar was still in the way for me as far as headroom was concerned.

Can you take a picture?

And is it close or do you have plenty of room?

I had forgotten about mounting in the family cage I do have that rollbar so I may do that.
I had a feeling I was over thinking it!

Ok so the sound bar behind the crossbeam is not going to work due to the soundbar being wider than the bars are spaced so it has to go in front of the crossbeam aka right over my head or in the middle of the spreader bar which just looks not that good to me.

I have re-drilled holes to move the bracket so the sound bar can sit farther down by about 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch.

Will test it this week and let the forum know I had to fix the horn and change spark plugs so this minor project got sent to the back burner.

I did the same. Moved the brackets down a 1/4 inch. Worked out perfectly.

Hmm... Mine came with two sets of holes to choose from. I probably chose the wrong one.
Haven't tried to put the hard top back on and don't plan to for at least another month!

I have a 89 YJ with a one piece hard top, how hard is it to get a sound bar to fit?

(I assume a one piece is what I have, not sure what a two piece is. the doors are one piece each and I can leave them on or off when I remove the top, which comes off in one piece).. does that make sense?

I live in a rain forest so I rarely take the top off, maybe a couple of weeks TOTAL a year.

My roll bars have the padding on them.

Super diver

So my hardtop comes off in 2 pieces I can take the front targa top off over driver and passenger and still have rear protected or take both off I love the versatility of it and if it rains I just put the targa top back on.

Just want tunes with it!

I need to rock out to my 80's big hair band!
