Sound sys issues

a few years ago I replaced my speakers and cd player in my 93 YJ. I followed the directions to the tee and the speakers sounded blown. I checked all of my connections, fueses and the grounds, and they all checked out. unfortunatly the next day I had to get on a plane for japan for 3 yrs. I come back and the issue is still unresolved. I will be purchasing new speakers and a cd player, any hints on how I can avoid this delima again?

What kind of speakers did you put in? What gauge wire did you use to wire them in? And what exactly do they sound like when you say they sound blown? Need some more details to come up with a possible explanation.

You get what you pay for... Usually gauge of the wire shouldn't matter for a speaker... If its like subs then it would need thicker wire. If it orginally had the stock radio. Call up a jeep dealer and get the wiring harness for the new radio.

The Speakers came in a JVC combo kit that someone gave me as a gift a few years ago. it came witht the player and speakers. The players is a KD-s29 and the the speakers are 200w peak power, if I can remember correctly. It was the original wiring system. When I turn the volume up I can get to about 1/3 of the volume level before they start sounding real grainy, muffled and they start to cut in and out.
