speedometer doesn't work

So I just had my transfer case replaced and now my speedometer stopped working. I know the cable is broken so I'm wondering what I should check next. I thought about opening up that piece where the cable hooks up to the transfer case but wanted to see if anyone had pictures or instructions on how to.

So the little plastic gear wasn't making contact with the shaft. Finally built up the courage and fixed it: )
