Speedometer gear

So I'm getting my larger tires installed tomorrow(35's) and quadratec and Morris 4x4 both say to use a 33 tooth speedometer gear but this website
http://www.4x4xplor.com/speedo.html
says to use a 34 tooth speedometer gear so I want to make sure I get the right one so that my speedometer is right. My current gear ratio is 4:10 by the way.

Before you buy the gear, wait to get the new tires on. Then measure the -actual- outside diameter of the new tire. If its a little more than 35", go with the 34-size gear. Depending on the manufacturer, a new tire could be less/more than it's advertised OD.

The difference between the 33 and 34 gear wouldn't be that noticeable unless you're traveling at highway speeds. But waiting to get the actual OD of the new tire would be the safest way to guarantee the accuracy of your speed.

That is the correct gear for t 35's and 4.10's by the way. I also agree that the difference between 33 and 34 isn't going to be a big difference. And really waiting for the tires isn't going to be a huge difference either. You are talking a difference in 1-3 mph off.

I have 35's, 4.10's, (I forget what brand, if you are really interested I could go check), but checked against GPS on my phone its right on.

4.10s and 31s was a 38 tooth. Has nothing to do with your question but I'm bored and felt like chiming in. Have half a dozen gears in my box from over the years. Maybe I should sell them.

Yes you should. We are all in need of parts like that. I'm sure if you post the sizes you have people will buy them. I may be interested in the 38 tooth.

I needed the 38 unfortunately but I know I have a 33, 34, and a 43 I think. I'm not at the house but I'll post when I finally get back
