Spring lift

Just put new leaf springs in my 91 YJ I've been looking at adding a lift. Is it possible to manufacture a longer shackle? I know they sell kits but when I was looking at them they looked pretty easy to make. I'd just have to figure out the size. Can anyone help me with this? Anyone have any pictures of their creations?

Shackles are easy to make. Start with a peice of flat bar 3 in wide 1/4in thick. You can go wide and thicker if you like. Stock shackles are 4in center hole to center hole. For every 2in you stretch out the center holes you gain 1in lift. Example if you go 6in center hole you will have a 2in lift shackle. If you want a half inch lift go 5in center hole. I suggest either a middle bolt with a metal sleeve in the middle or a brace in the middle of the shackle. Hope this helps.

Banks did you mean if I went 6" center I would have a 1" lift right? I'd have to go 8" to get a 2" lift right?

Yes, but that big of shackle will cause alot of stress on your springs.
