Alright I have tried all I can think of so I come to you guys for help. Here is whats going on...I have an 88 wrangler with a 4.2 6 cylinder and a 5 speed manual transmission. I just rebuilt the motor. I put the motor back in and wired it up. It would crank but not start (ended up being a fuel pump). After replacing the fuel pump it would crank and start (the timing was a little off but the motor would run).
Here is a list of new parts/things I have done to it: new battery, new battery cables, new starter relay, and many more but none that are relevant to my problem.
Here is what the jeep does: when I turn the key to start it the jeep acts like the battery is dead, it will turn the motor over about a half a turn and then just click the starter like its got a dead battery. I have had the battery tested and its good, I have also tried starting it with a battery charger hooked up to it and it still does the same thing. I have also tried jumping the starter and that still didnt work (before any suggestions on replacing the starter I had purchased a new starter and after installation it was doing the same thing. This morning I took the alternator and the starter to autozone for them to test it and they said that both were fine. I noticed on the back of the alternator there is a spot at the top for a connector, a post on the left side where the battery hooks to, and then a bolt hole on the right side that says "batt" (see pic below). On my alternator there is no wire that hooks in there, or there is supposed to be and I just dont see it, is there supposed to be a seperate ground wire that goes strait from the battery to the alternator?
Sorry for being so long winded I just feel like I have tried everything and its really starting to be frustrating.
