steering

Hi I'm new around here and relatively new to jeeps. So to get to the point I have an 87 wrangler a 3.5 inch lift and 33's and I want it bigger and more capable. What I want to do is a soa with my current springs. I know it can be done bc I've seen it. I just need some guidance and I figured here would be the best place to start. I can probably do the work I just don't know crap about steering.

well 3.5 springs on soa is huge. i wouldn't do it. if i was bent on keeping my springs i'd make a bastard pack. take those lift springs apart, and replace the second leaf with a stock leaf, that should make it around 7 or 8 total inches.

whats your question on steering. w/ a drop pitman arm and that much of an arched spring you can probably run the stock drag link. the problem comes in when the drag link runs into the front right spring while turning right. you never know if its gonna clear till you build it, some clear and some don't, i've seen no rhyme or reason yet.

after that there's hi steer kits that are great, but not cheap.

Well doc I appreciate the info but when u started talking about draglinks I was lost the best way I can explain it is to look at yardfab's rig. That's what I want. I ran acroos his on another post and he had mentioned problems with steering and he had fabbed up some custom steering.

A local shop here in arizona advertises the following...

YJ cross-over steering for D30.
This kit is a must when doing a SOA lift.
Kit includes:

New knuckle
New HD drag link with 1-ton TRE's
New Tie Rod with 1-ton TRE's

Requires drilling out stock knuckle, pitman arm and retaper for new TRE.
