I picked up the jeep yesterday, and before purchasing I jacked up the front end and had a friend move the steering wheel from side to side and noticed no play or wobbles in other parts but just slack in the steering gearbox before the wheels actually shifted. I was hoping the slack in the wheel would go away once I made a small adjustment, but after two decent adjustments very little improvement.
How much can I turn the screw until where it actually binds up the box? Is it common for these nuts to come that loose? All of the play seems to be happening in the steering box and worried if I were to keep tightening the screw I could potentially destroy it.
