Ok, I have a strange issue with my YJ blinker. started blinking slow, checked bulbs and cleaned contacts, no change. Then it started to dim lighter and now finally no light. the driver side still works ?? question would be, could it be the flasher for the passenger side only going out,. if that's even possible....
Cleaning the contacts is only the first step. Put dielectric grease on the cleaned contacts.
The next step is check your grounds (front & rear). What you are stating sounds like a grounding issue. Take out the grounding screw, scrape away paint and corrosion and replace the old screw with a new screw-same length but one size larger. A hex head is easier but a philips head will do.
I doubt that the flasher is the culprit but they are cheap. If a new flasher does not cure your problem, save the old one. I would take it apart just to see how it works.
Good Luck, L.M.
if you want to check your flasher put on the hazards see if it does the same thing.. take a wire from the ground to the battery ground and check it to see if its a grounding issue.. if not you could have a bad bulb or bad socket. sockets tend to get corroded on jeeps.. the hazard and blinker flasher are the same you can switch them and try it also.. If you got a meter check to see if the power wire is shorted to ground could have a bare spot in the wire..
Hmmm. Tried all of the methods above. Seems like I am not getting power to the blinker. Does the rely have anything to do with it.If so, where is the relay?
No relay. If one side works, they both use the same flasher unit, so its most likely the wiring to the non working side. Start by making yourself one or two long jumper wires that will come in handy for having in your tool box. Run one from the ground spot on the bulb socket back to the battery negative and see if that makes it work.
Ok, all others work. have power going to housing bulb is good. Cleaned housing and put dielectric. still nothing. Just doesn't make sense that the housing contacts would be out. 95 yj 4.0l auto. It is for sale, that's why I am trouble shooting this.
Yes all others work. Finally got power to the housing but no light. New bulb. So I am guessing the housing is some how not connecting even after cleaning it..
If the brake light and taillight on THAT side work, it cant be the housing since they are the same bulb as the turn signal. How , exactly are you testing for power at the bulb socket? Are you getting a blinking test light when you probe the contact button in the socket while grounded to the mount plate?
That is correct... Did not do anything today on it. Happy Labor day.. I will get back on it this week. still puzzled.
