strange 4WD

Finally got the vacuum switch replaced and now I can enable 4WD. But, when I engage it feels like the front is kinda bogging, Almost as if one wheel would go backwards and the other forward. The 4WD light comes on and goes out and comes on....
Front differential? Any idea?

Thx

M.

Has it been wrecked or axels replaced? I just had this problem and had a lower gear ratio in front than rear!

I don't know. The preivous owner didn't mention anything, but that means nothing. I found your thread a minute ago, you lifted one wheel and counted the rotations, right?

I read your last thread and it said you replaced the switch because it was sluggish. so did it actually work before you changed the switch or not? If it did I would check the switch again and the lines that go to it.

yeah, it did engage but it took a while. Now it's faster. I didn't drive in 4WD before so I didn't recognize the jerking. Just got the baby.

put it up on jack stands and in nuetral have someone turn the drive tire 1 revolution and count how many time the drive shaft turns 3.75 turns of the drive shaft to 1 turn of tire equals 3.73 gears as example do this for front and rear. report back! or pop off diff cover and look for the gear ratio no the
ring gear!

It is on the ring gear on the edge, by the teeth, you will need new fluid and
rvt to seal it up! Make sure jeep is on stands so you cant turn it till you see the numbers it will tell you teeth on ring gear and pinion u divide them to get gear ratio! or you can count teeth on ring gear and pinion.

I had 2 drive shaft turns for one wheel turn on front and 1 1/2 on rear. popped the diff and final quote: 4.10 front and 3.07 rear. I will change rear to 4.10 and be done. actually someone will do it for me.
Thx Jeepers92 for your help. have a great WE
