Stroker kit for 4.2?

Who has stroked their 4.2? Yep since I was taking off the timing cover I decided to drop the pan too. A lot of metal! So now I have the choice to stock it or stroke it. Is it worth it?

Most stroke the 4.0 using a 4.2 crank.

Hmmm havn't heard that one. When you stroke the 4.2 I do believe it takes it out to a 4.7. I'll have to look the stats up.

i wrote out a nice reply and thats when the forum glitched again or something, i got pissy and didn't type it again.

i haven't heard of stroking the 4.2, the 4.0 engine uses the 4.2 crank to make the stroker. so putting the stroker in a 4.2 jeep is possible, but it means using all the engine management (fuel injection and so on) from a 4.0

i suppose you can use a 4.0 w/ 4.2 crank and use the 4.2 head and all, but its not the same as the traditional stroker, plus the carb would probably have to be changed, or swap to fuel injection, and by that time i'd rather use a traditional stroker.

so putting a stroker in a 4.0 jeep is almost as simple as a rebuild, but putting it into a 4.2 jeep is not.

I stand corrected. Given the wrong info or maybe I miss understood. Looked it up and found that it becomes a 4.6 at 269 hp and 339ftlbs at 3200 rpms. That is an option for later.
I guess I will have the cylinders punched out and call it good with a cam.
Thanks for clearing it up.
