Hey all. Have A 93 4.0 Wrangler Sport Man trans. Other day it snowed and used 4wd and now I can't get it out of 4wd. Will go to 4 lo and netball bit not back to 2wd. Trans was rebuilt 2 yrs ago. Any thought

Have you tried backing it straight back to relive any binding?
You can definitely feel the binding of it being in 4WD while turning, correct?

Look at the shift rod between the shifter and the shift shaft plate. Look for evidence that it's been sliding out of adjustment. Look at the shift shaft plate while it's "in" 2wd. Is it straight up?

Like the previous post says, check your linkage. Easiest way to figure out if its linkage is to pop the linkage rod out, then move the TC into 2WD by hand, or gently with a bar. I say gently if you pry on it is because they can get hard to move by hand, and cracking your cast aluminum TC is easier than you would think. Doesnt hurt to hit is with some PB blaster where is rotates also.

As for the light, that actually comes on from the front axle sensor. If you put it in 4x4 and the light turns off, then your vacuum connects are backwards which means when you do go into 4x4 the 2 piece axle wont be connected. If thats the case, just switch the hoses on the axle with each other.

Tried the backing up braking hard trick to no avail.
Where does this "braking hard" crap come from? You are the second guy having problems getting out of 4wd that mentions this "trick". The only trick that involves braking hard in reverse is for adjusting the self adjusting rear brake shoes.

Just back up a little ways in a straight line, push in the clutch, and ease the shifter forward. Don't touch the brakes. It helps to be rolling ever so slightly
