Unhappy supet loud squeeling noise front of engine

Ok, I am asking for help again. You all helped me out with the check engine light issue I had so I am hoping u can help me now. There is a crazy loud squeeling noise in the front part of my 4.0L. We have put a new alternater, New idoler pully, tightened the belt and kinda checked the pully alignment. Still squeeling. The belt looks fine so I went and bought some belt quiet stuff and sprayed it on there and the squawk got louder! I also did the water squirt test on the ribbed part of the belt and when sprayed it stops squawking then starts again. The gauges are all good and there doesn't seem to be leaking and coolant so I have also ruled out water pump. Does anybody know what this could be? I can't even drive it because it is so loud!! But other than the noise, it runs like a champ!! Help, please!!! Thanks!

I'd try loosening the belt a little and double check the pulley. Getting a new belt to run quiet can be tricky. Usually they stretch and quiet down after running a bit. It shouldn't be that loud though.

If any doubt it is belt you can safely run a cold engine for one minute without belt (not any long time as water pump not running) but a one minute test can insure you are not confusing belt with laughing monkey (OPDA on 2005 or 06 4.0)

For belt a new clean belt with clean pullies and if newer TJ with spring loaded tensioner a good tensioner or older Tj 4.0 properly manually tightened belt

I will run it with it off for a few seconds to see what the deal is. Thanks Digger! I read something about maybe the harmonic balancer could make noise. My boyfriend said there is no way. Any thoughts on that?

I will take a video of it and see if I can post it on here. It is so loud people whip their heads around when I drive by. Embarrassing!

Both straight 6 and V12 engines are inherently balanced and do not need harmonic balancers

V8 all need a harmonic balancer as they have an primary imbalance that requires a balancer at crankshaft rpm

Straight 4s have a secondary imbalance that is either lived with as a buzz dampened by proper soft/stiffness motor mounts are attempted to be compensated by weighted shafts spinning at twice the engine rpm patented by Mitsubishi as the "silent shaft design"

New update.I changed the belt and tensioner pully again and all is well. The first belt I put on was bad. Nice! My 95 yj is purring like a kitten. Thank you so much for all the help!!

My 4.0 is doing the same thing coming to a stop and when the RPMs drop. Battery gauge drops to about 10-12 and the squeak starts. I swapped out for a new belt. Anyone think the alternator is going too?
