Suspenino + Gearing Help w/ 4" lift and Shackles

Ok. So I got on my kick and im just going to go for it. I am going to order my Rough Country 4" lift tomorrow morning from buddies shop. Currently I have 1.25" shackle lift on the jeep. Can I keep that along with the 4" springs with the pitman arm and extensions they will give me with kit? If not would it make sense to go to stock or just smaller shackles for more clearence in the front. I considered a 1-2" body lift but I think rather keep shackles for all suspension.

Mainly however I will run 33x12.5x15's on my Micky T classic II beadlocks 15x10. I drive on the road a little but nothing at all crazy far. 11 miles one way to work, and farthest would be to get to buddies fields and trails which is 20 or so miles tops. Should I go 4.11 or 4.56's. I am leaning towards the 4.56's for the sake its still not crazy tight. I rather tighter gearing than to tall. So I guess suggestions are very welcome. And would I be crazy to gear it a step over the 4.56's as well? Sounds fun to me but don't want to be to unpractical.

Thanks

With 5.25 inches of total lift, I'd definitely suggest an SYE. personally, I dont think I'd run a shackle lift with 4 inch lift springs. Just my opinion. I'd take off the shackles and do a 1 inch body lift. I wouldn't go over one inch though incase it messes with the transfer case linkage or something. If I were you I'd try to stick it out with the transfer case drop kit for now then get an SYE when you can. But you really can't use the drop kit for a lift over 4 inches. That's why I'd suggest taking off the shackles. As for gears, I think you'd be okay with 4.56s since you're not doing much road riding but someone else could better help you on this area.

Well said. I sort of want the shackles off anyway for looks and clearence. But as you said going up an extra 1.25 inchs on top of the 4 is much. However how I see it is if the shackles work raising stock how can it hurt after a propor lift. besides extending brake lines and shafts. I don't plan on doing the SYE and driveshaft yet so in time I will.

I am doing a lot of reading and searching and at this point thinking 4.56 or 4.88's

Well if I remember correctly, someone on this forum told me how shackle lifts bend the springs more to increase the lift height. It's just my personal preference not to have a shackle lift with a spring lift and with 4 inch springs, that's more tension on those shackles. I don't know it's just my opinion haha. Others may agree others may disagree. As for brake line extensions. Buy 6 inch extensions if you plan on going higher than 4 inches. As for the gearing, is your jeep a 2.5 or 4.0? If it's a 4.0 I think you'll be more than pleased with 4.56

Yea 4.0 motor. So I think im going with 4.56's. Deff not a cheap mod huh! Looking where I can but any suggestions on a place to buy gears front and rear as well as a rebuild kit for seals and bearings? Figure do it right if im gonna go in there.

As for shackles what do I do. Stock ones or just buy shorter ones that are regreaseable and whatnot.

I don't know about any shackle kits since I'm not a fan of them but if you must get ones that you can grease up if you do any mudding. The po on my jeep put some on and they are coming off soon (1/2 lift shackles. Its not bad to have 1" or smaller shackle lifts but anything bigger changes the way the springs take bumps hits etc. Essentially it adds more tension to them and can cause premature flattening of springs! Now I would do a 1.25 bl but that's for a different reason that most people don't do on a yj.... a TT eventually.

I will say quadratec and 4wd.com both have shackle pairs for sale all kinds of shapes and sizes. For not too much so check there!

4" lift will be plenty without any need to be higher for 33s. But maybe u want lots of flex room! 4.56s should be perfect to get your jeep back to stock feel. You'll see the return of power and not really loose any gas mileage.
