Just did my SYE. I didn't want to have to pull the case out either thought it would be to much of a pain but in the end I'm happy I did. It's only 6 15mm bolts and you just wiggle the thing right out.. Thinking back to it it would have been a real pain in the a** to try to install the SYE with the case still in the jeep. Before you wiggle the tcase out make sure you disconnect the breather tube and the vacuum lines and obviously the shift linkage.

I was wondering the same thing and came across a thread where a member said to back the jeep onto ramps to give yourself more headroom. This is what I am going to try.

I have plenty of head room. Soa on 2.5 springs I can almost sit under it. And I'm really short haha

Pull the tcase. It's much easier to do the work on a bench.

Yeah check out the Crown video on youtube for a bench install. Doesn't take long the only PIA is the shift linkage.

Unless you have a lift or enough room to sit upright I recommend just pulling it. Keep the trans as level as you can and then jack it up after you remove the t-case. That way you wont loose any fluid.
