I am thinking of installing a 4" suspension lift. I'll probably go with Rough Country since that seems best for my money. I will do an SYE later in life when I have more money saved up, but for now, I'd just do the TC Drop that comes with the kit. However, I read that many people have issues with their shifters, motor mounts or front driveshaft angle..On the other hand, I've seen tons of posts by people saying that they are just fine after the lift.. Which crowd do I believe? I always thought the only issue with a TC drop was ground clearance, which I am ok with since I won't have it this way forever, as stated above. Are there really other issues? Or should I just believe the majority and not worry about it?
The kit comes with the tc bars and will get your angles close...I had no problems with mine and eventually got a super short sye and custom length driveshaft. You will most likely have an issue with your shifter not going into 2nd,4th and reverse. Take the boot off and remove the rubberized metal plate below the boot and reinstall your boot. That solved it for me. I would suggest a sye for your next purchase so you can get the drop down bars out of there.
Thanks! I just read RC the instructions and see that they address the shifter issue as well. I guess that means that those other issues are pretty uncommon.. I really want this lift now. But if anyone else sees this thread and has further input, don't hesitate!
I had a 4" Trailmaster with the transmission drop brackets on my old 86 Wrangler and I don't remember having any issues with it, other than it leaked oil after I had the lift installed. I did have some driveshaft vibration at low speed but nothing too memorable.
They 'address' it by telling you to cut away some of the opening in your tub if I remember? I'm just saying you might be ok with removing that plate under the shifter boot.
Yeah that is what they say. I'll do your method though because I don't like to change original stuff more than I absolutely need to. I just meant that since they only talk about that issue and nothing else, then there is no need to worry about those other issues as much as some people say.
