Timing-Gen'l Question

Hello all,

I'm trying to learn... please be patient with me...

When it is said that a vehicles' timing is, say, 20 degrees BTDC... where are the 20 degrees measured from? Are they part of the 360 degree rotation of the distributor?

Thanks,
Tom

Look at the Harmonic Balance on the front of the Crank Shaft it should have a line on it for TDC and there should be a scale on the Cam cover, or it could be the other way around I do remember with go to the shop to see, thats where you read the timing, set it with the vac. line off of the Dizzy, then reconnect the line after setting the timing. as you accelerate the timing should advance, watch the scale and see that it does. hope this was clear I not good at explaining things I do all the time.

Don't forget to plug the vacuum line when you disconnect it.
