Tire carrier/ 3rd brake light

I only have a stock size spare and I'm currently running 33s so I went to take it off completely and found it had a locking lug on it so I got it taken off at a tire place and got home to remove the whole set up tonight in the dark thinking it would be easy... Yeah uhh no... Haha there's torx bits and hex bolts galore under there and wtf am I supposed to do with the 3rd brake light? How do I keep that and not have it look stupid... Comments, advice, input, a new tailgate I'm accepting any of the above lol

I don't have a full size spare yet I just wanted to remove the whole carrier for now but I'm not sure what to do about the 3rd brake light or if I even have to keep it for now

I took the plastic cover off on the inside of the tailgate and cut the wires where they could be wired up if I ever needed them again and then I pulled the rest of it through the grommet.

The 89 didn't have a 3rd brake light, I'm guessing most police aren't going to pull you over for it unless it is there and not working, and they think you might be a DUI. they probably don't really know which of the older vehicles should have them and which shouldn't just from looking.

I would do what rwat10 did. My 93 does not have a third brake lamp and to my knowledge never did, I've owned it for the past 8 years.

I have a 95 that I removed the spare carrier from. My third brake light is now hanging on the garage wall with the carrier. I pulled the plastic cover off the wiring on the inside of the tailgate and wiggled, twisted, and pulled the wires from the contact buttons and fed them back through the hole in the tailgate.
