Hello to all, another educational trip to my favorite forum on all jeep matters. I have a 95 YJ with Dana 30 upfront. I just purchased TJ axels to install. Eliminating the vacuum actuator just waiting on the u-joints to come in. How long can I go with the current driveshaft before replacing with a balanced one? I am ordering one from Tom Wood just gotta save up a little more cash. Thanks for the info
As for the front driveshaft.. it might be fine.. or just have it balanced for for far less than a new one and call it day.... no need to get a new one. Note the 95 had the bigger u-joints already..u just need the longer passenger side shaft and new seals and your set.
Local guy sold me both for $30 a piece couldn't pass up the deal. Thanks for the info and wish new about the u-joints before ordered the other ones. Oh well new parts never hurt anything right.
You'll need a 36mm socket for the axle nut, and be prepared its gonna be tight. If you dont have an impact gun find some one that does. Also a 12 or 13mm 12 point socket to remove the three bolts that hold the hub assemble on. When I did the swap I replaced both axle seals using seals for a Cherokee. Idk if that it will stayed sealed but for the time being it hasn't leaked. Ive been told that the yj axle housings were machined for the seal to go in the spot the cherokee and tjs used but that wasnt the case on mine, 89 model. but i managed to make it work. you'll also need a piece of flat metal to make a block off plate for the cad unit. Then some rtv to seal that up with. And lastly when you put it back together clean all bolts and mating surfaces of the hub with a wire brush then coat them in anti-cease you'll be glad you did if you ever have to take it apart again.
Hey guys what U joints do you recommend for the Dana 30 axle? The 1310,1350 or something else? I'm running 31's thanks for the advice
