I have a couple of questions about the TJ/XJ shaft upgrade that I'm starting on my YJ. I've been searching for a bit but can't get a definite answer, so please excuse me if these have been asked. The main reason why I'm doing the upgrade is because my axle seals are leaking on both driver and passenger side, and because my 4x4 CAD system does not currently work. I wanted to eliminate the CAD while I have everything apart.
1) Can I just swap in the passenger side TJ shaft and get rid of the 2-piece shaft, without changing the driver side shaft? I understand that the TJ/XJ shaft could come with larger u-joints, but is it -necessary- for them to match the driver side?
2) I've come to read that NAPA part#: 11800 is the seal that will go on the passenger side of the differential, (carrier removed). Do I have to replace the seal from the CAD housing to make the TJ/XJ shaft fit? Is that seal completely eliminated and removed?
3) Is there a difference between the TJ/XJ shafts that are equipped with ABS? Are the spline counts the same?
4) Are all TJ/XJ shafts come with the larger u-joints? If not what years/models do I look for in the junkyards?
5) Since my Front DS will spin all the time now, I have to upgrade to a TJ/XJ style electronic 4x4 switch to make the 4x4 indicator work?
