Is the track bar a much needed item? For a daily driver with small lift, do I need it? I have new ball joints and tie rods..

Took mine off when I put my lift on. Haven't regretted it yet. The ride is a ton better.
The cj models didn't have track bars, Chrysler put them on as a lawsuit avoider. The sole purpose is to stop excess body roll. So if you take them off you are essentially taking your jeep back to 70's handling.
Generally if you have newer suspension components and stiffer springs because of your lift you will be fine. This is because your stiffer springs are enough to keep your axle under your jeep.
It's your call if you want them on or off. I was initally opposed to taking them off but as soon as I took them off and took my yj for a ride, I knew they weren't going back on.

I have a 1" lift shackle on mine with a 2.5" lift springs and the front end is tight, i drive at a normal driving speed, the speed limit, and I put my front one back on with a lift bracket and Will Not take it back off. the rear I never knew it was gone, but I don't like my jeep is with out the one on the front, it feels like i'm driving an old CJ with bad spring bushings.

I have my front & rear track bars as well as my sway bar. Much improved!

The handling for daily driving is much tighter and more controlled(modern) feeling.
Removing them will be noticeable.

The ride may be softer and you will get better articulation with them removed.

They are far from "unnecessary junk" as some will say. I removed mine and noticed right away how the handling went from tight to squirrelly as the axles are able to squirm around a little more. Mainly when applying power in a turn, like pulling out into traffic.

That;s the feeling I don't like, Plus I have a locker in the rear and every time my auto trans shifts it jerks back and forth, I don't like that ,and then whin I let off before a curve and then accelerate in the middle of the curve coming off of it the car will jerk back the other way. no no no!
