Traction Bar Carnage.

I was flexing on a 3-foot tall dirtbike ramp and snapped the axle mount for the traction bar.

What should I do?

Pictures in a couple.

cut off the other end. you dont need it. better start attacking that rust before it gets worse.

Guys, don't worry, the crackers got ****in demolished.
They will live on in our memory.

Anyway, whats you guy's best advice for the rust?

Oh yeah, theres no problems with this thing other than the traction bar is uber ****ed.

One more thing, if I don't need it, what was the t bar for anyway?

it is overkill for body roll, and stability. it rides better without, you will not roll over going down the road. it helps keep the axle centered, but on yj's it doesn't really matter cuz of the leaf springs.

for the rust, i'd say go under there with a die grinder, or grinder with a wire wheel, and knock off all the big stuff, and just do the best you can. then clean it up a little, and use a good rustoleum/primer, paint, or undercoating. you won't be able to get it perfect, but you'll slow the rust down by 10 x.

Like Dave said on the rust. Take a wire wheel or brush to it first. But if my frame looked like that I'd use a roofing tar compound on it. It's cheap, will stick to anything, can be brushed or rolled on and will stop that shit in it's tracks.

As for your trac bars, ditch'em. The leaf springs center the axle and Jeep on put them on YJ's to provide "Security" and ride comfort for the consumer. You really don't need your sway bars either, as your leaf suspension is much stiffer than a coil/link setup. But that's all in personal preference.

It would suck if your leaf hanger brackets are as bad as the TB bracket.

that happens, at the rear of the frame on a lot of rusty ones. rear body mounts fall through to.

i have never seen a vehicle with so much rust!!!! that old ass truck in my avatar, that is beside the james river, to give you an idea of how long there is a tree growing through the engine bay, that truck has less rust. i would abandon ship on some kid or some guy who doesn't know what hes lookin at, tell him theres rust, he won't care. then buy something that won't rust into pieces.

my jeep has zero rust...zero

ohh yeah no trac bar no sway bars, flexes better drives smoother, your steering input is a little sluggish though.

You gotta love the east for putting down sodium chloride and calcium chloride on the highways when it snows. Could they use something a little more corrosive?! Hell, My parents have a 2000 Ford back there that is already starting to rust out.

So, you can imagine my shock and awe when I got out here to SoCal and started seeing old cars driving down the freeway! And I would have never dreamed of finding a rust free 87 YJ back east.

But, I agree with Jack and Dave on the rust issue! Take care of it now! Wire brush it, fit whats rotten and coat it.

yeah, I've put it on rusted metal in the past and the stuff works great. Not saying that other liners don't work also, but that shit will go on no matter the conditions.

I agree with Tiny... But you may also have a bit of a rust issue!

But... Once those crackers are gone, you'll need a Gorilla for that Parrot issue.

I'll just wait till my frame breaks and I'll completely redo the Jeep.
I know, sounds like a shitty idea, but it'll work out.

By the way, no more crackers. The rest got demolished when working on a buddy's truck.
