Tranmission Questions

Ive got a 93 Sahara 4.0L 6 cyl Auto and I know its kind of creeping up there in transmission and engine miles with 156k but I cant seem to find anyone talking about when it went out. I know its based on how well it was taken care of and I dont think the previous owner gave a crap about it to be honest, but as of right now its mechanically sound but I kind of just want to know a rough estimate of how many miles is avg for my type of yj.

When my customers asked me a question like that, I'd look at them and say "How long is a rope".
Usually they responded with "oh, I understand"

Mine has 200k plus. If its not broke drive it. If fluid is clean and full leave it. Any auto tranny on the way out will have nasty brown fluid and it will smell like varnish. Drain and pull pan. That's a easy way to inspect and see where it's at. They tend to slip and shift sloppy if they are about to go to. They rarely just instantly fail. Good luck. Hope that helps.

your engine will last around 350k if taken care of, the auto was known to be a good tranny, but its really up in the air, i would imagine somewhere between 200k-250k.

Jeep716 is dead on, that transmission is amazing its very similar to what dodge has always built, the only thing dodge did that messed it up was to add an overdrive to the back of it(trucks).. as a builder i would say check the fluid weekly/monthly and make sure it looks nice and red when it changes in color then drop the pan and wash/change the filter and add new fluid. these units always produce metal which will be loaded up on the pan magnet, fuzzys are normal but large pieces that you can pick up are not.. just like jeep716 said you will notice a change in fluid color/burnt smell or slipping into gear or a delayed engagement into forward/reverse.

Send a message via Yahoo to Nubby55
Are you going to just rebuild because of mileage? I'd whate for it to fail.

The one of few questions that cannot be answered. It might fail the next time you start it, or it might last until the odometer rolls over a few times.
