Transfer case

Ok guys. I've ran into a problem. I have a 92 jeep wrangler. Bought a new transfer case and have been trying to install it this weekend but can't get it to work. It's the np231 j and the new one has a slip yoke eliminator. My old drive shaft won't work cause it was used for the original transfer case so I can't put it on yet. But however, I can only get the transfer case to go into neutral and 4 hi. It only has two shift positions instead of 2wd neutral 4 hi and 4 lo. I was wondering If anyone could help me with this please!!!

Check the shifting linkage. That linkage is like a complicated maze.

Lol. Ya it is. But I don't think that's it. Unless it's something inside the transfer case on the linkage.

Start with the linkage and go from there. Next i would think would be the shift forks.

Are you SURE it's a 231? What did it come out of?

You can check on the back of the tcase to the left of the tailhousing there should be a circular tag on it. It should say NP231J. Make sure it has the J at the end.
