Transfer case fluid

Hello,
95 wrangler 2.5 manual transmission.

I am performing a drain and fill on the transmission and the transfer case tomorrow.
Im using 75W-90 (80W-90 actually) in both the transmission and the transfer case.

I have read numerous posts recommending ATF exclusively in the transfer case.

My Chilton manual reads: "Use the same viscosity oil as in the transmission".
But.. the next paragraph reads:
"Remove the fill plug, then fill the transfer case (both the NP-207 and the NP-231 use dexron II transmission fluid.")
Chiltons manual sort of contradicts its self.

Since my transmission requires 75W-90...thats what I plan on using in the transfer case.

If anyone has other recommendations, please let me know.
Thanks

You actually can run about any lightweight oil in ether the trans or transfer case. The heavier (like gear oils) the oil the worse it is for both. I like ATF, but I also change mine 4-5 times a year because I am in a lot of mud and creek crossings almost every week...

Ok thanks,
I returned the 80W-90 gear oil.

Went to W-mart.
I purchased Super Tech full synthetic 10W-30 oil for the transmission.
The 1 gal container reads "API service SN, SM, SL, ILSAC GF-5 and GF-4.
I believe that 80W-90 gear oil is GF-5.
The main difference that I have learned since my original post is that
Gear Oil (GF-5) is corrosive to brass or is unfriendly to yellow metal..the AX5 and AX15 trnasmission syncro gears are brass.
Manual transmission = 10w-30

For the transfer case I purchased Super Tech ATF
ATF label reads "suitable for use in vehicles requiring Dexron II, Dexron III and Mercon fluids."

Bought a Fluid Pump at Harbour Freight to make the fill job easy.

Thanks
