Transfer Case Fluid Question

Ok, here's a good riddle. Thoughts would be great.....how on earth could I have driven my jeep for the past two years (at least 15,000 miles) with zero fluid in the tranny case?

How is this possible? Would love to hear thoughts on this as I am completely stumped...and yes, when I say it was out I mean it was out. I unknowingly bought it empty, never checked it, and when it was filled last week it all leaked out because the rear oil ring doesn't seal correctly thanks to my mainline being bent. (didn't know that either...my the things we learn)...anyway, thoughts???

it's possible that the leak is fairly recent and it hasn't been empty all that long

i wish that would have been the case, but it hasn't leaked in two years until the fluid was added....and now it's all leaked out...so i managed to drive it without fluid for two years. going to crack it open tomorrow. can't wait to see internals...........
