Well my son sunk his wrangler and ruined the transmission and when I puuled it out I also noticed that the transfer case fluid is a milky reddis pink so water also got into that as well. I know I have to change out the fluid but was wondering if there is anything else that I ned to do so that it will not cause more problems ??? Thanks for your help....

nope just empty it and refill it right. Really really really hard to hurt the x-case. It is a few gears and a chain.

As long as you get the contminated fluid out and new fluid in it will be just fine.

I was just wondering if it is making a rattling noise with the contaminated fluid because ever since i got my yj with the same motor and trans stuck in a big mud puddle theres been a rattling sound and it sounds like its coming from the transfercase.

If it's rattling it's more than likely that the chain is stretched. This is common with older chain driven t-cases. New chains run about $80-$100 and a complete t-case rebuild (not including chain) runs about $100-$140. So for about $240 you can build a new case.

I'd keep an eye out locally to try and find a used one on the cheap and rebuild the old one though.

Check to see if the rattle is from your cat before pulling apart the T-case.

Change the fluid this time. drive it for about 1000 miles and check it again and see if all the old contaminated fluid is out. I did this on my jeep. Owner before must of sunk it bad, i changed the fluid as soon as i got it. drove it for awhile and changed it 1000 miles later. with the new fluid it had helped clear out all the contaminated oil.
