Transmission Question

Transmission runs great in 1-4. When I go to shift into 5th and let out the clutch it makes a winey/rattle noise but goes away as soon as I hit the gas. If I let off the gas while in gear it makes the same noise. Only does this in 5th and just started doing it?

My initial thought was the synchronizer? Would appreciate any insight you all may have.

Thanks

Synchro with the gear fully engaged? I wonder what would make the back side of the gear not mesh right.

Yeah I'm not sure? Only other thing I could think would be the throw out bearing...but wouldn't that affect other gears as well?

Wouldn't be a throw out bearing. You probably need a rebuild. The bearings in the back part of the trans are probably shot.

you'd know a throw out bearing by the sound. Its kind of a chirpy type clunky squeek like a squirrel makes if you'd heard one before. As well, the throw out would shut right up as soon as the clutch is engaged. If your noise happens then quits right as you engage, then I'd say go after the throw out. Otherwise... keep a searchin'

That's a good description! It's about how it sounds but only in 5th. Thanks for your help guys! I'll nurse it a long as far as I can.
