try to fix something, break something

I have a 90 YJ with a 4.2. I have an issue where when the Jeep is cold the alt gauge reads 10 but goes to 13_14 when it warms up, or if I hit the throttle. I checked the belt, and it has about 2 inches of play. I was going to try to tighten it, but when I tried to loosen the bolt in the slider gap at the top of the alternator, the head snapped off the bolt. F#ck! I need to know what the piece that this bolt goes into is called and where to get one, or am I stuck trying to drill it out and re_ tap. Also, after the bolt broke, I loosed (without breaking) the bolt on the slider on the rear of the alternator, but can't release the tension on the belt. Help!

The bolts on mine were mangled by the po. I just unbolt the ac to get the belt off.
Not that helps with tensioning any.
I believe there are 4 bolts.
Just Google alternator bracket you should have no issue finding what you need.
Personally, I'd drill,tap and replace.

Figured out how to get it loose. Tried to tension the belt, snapped the bolt in the back of the alternator off and the one the bracket pivots on. F#ck F#ck F#ck F#ck F#ck mother f#ck! Getting gasoline and matches

This has always been my philosophy when working on my junker. Welcome to the wonderful world of rusted automobiles! I am impressed by the small number of times you said "f#ck". I start the day by saying it as soon as I look at the POS sitting in my garage. Then I crack a beer, get belligerent with it, hit it with a hammer, kick the tire, wonder why I still own it, say f#ck about a dozen more times, have another beer, look for the gas & matches, realize I have no gas, feel dejected, shut the lights off, and live to die another day! Ahhhhh……old Jeeps. I used to have a full head of hair, you know!

A relaxing hobby is bird watching. A Jeep is a heart attack/stroke waiting to happen!
