Unhappy Trying to get excited about my Jeep again

She has come a LONG way since I got her. Lift kit, lights, bumpers, winch, etc etc. Been unemployed and havent been able to work on her. Any suggestions to keep me from doing the ultimate stupid mistake of selling it? PLEASE HELP!!!

YJPunisher213,

I can only tell you from experience. DON'T SELL YOUR JEEP, YOUR BOAT OR YOUR FIREARMS unless you are upgrading. I don't know what it is, but American men "bond" to the Jeep. I sold my WWII 1942 Willy's and I regretted it TO THIS DAY!! I am not a pack rat and I don't buy extravagant. But what I have, I have. When you have a dependable vehicle, you get attached to it but with jeeps, it is a little different. They can go places other vehicles can't. They go in and bring you back out. That develops loyalty that nonJeep owners don't understand. It isn't a cult or fad. Its loyalty based on working on the jeep, driving the jeep, getting back with the jeep. You know it isn't the nicest ride, but its your ride. You know it isn't the most comfortable ride, but its your ride. It isn't the most economical drive, but its your drive. I don't think we pick Jeep... I truly think JEEP PICKS US.

I wouldn't sell it unless you absolutely have to... and if that is the case, then it doesn't matter because you have to do what you have to do. I hope your unemployment changes soon. Good luck.

Take care,

WELL SAID, SIR! Thank you. And in fact I just landed a job last Thursday! And your right. My dad has had 2 CJs and always talks about how he regrets getting rid of them.

Congrats on the job, I know that is a huge weight off of your shoulders. These jeeps, at times, can be money pits, but I would not trade mine for anything! I am glad that everything worked out for you.

When I get tempted to sell a vehicle, all I have to do is detail it and then I can't part with it. Found that out by cleaning a couple up to sell, then changing my mind. Unless you keep it spotless all the time, it's like a new vehicle.

I'm with you on two of the three. Selling my last boat was the greatest thing I've done for myself in a while. As the owner of now my 5th Jeep, I don't plan on ever selling again. The YJs have hit the bottom of the resale market and aren't likely to drop much more in price so I've got very little worry of depreciation. That said, as the owner of dozens of firearms, I don't sell them even if I *am* upgrading. I just put the other ones in storage. Never know when you might need that extra firearm.

I once sold a 30 year old Paul Mottey Pool cue because I was in a pinch. That was about ten years ago now and I am still pissed at myself. I even considered selling the Jeep once, but I made the right decision and decided to keep dumping money in it. Money well spent.
