u-joint problem...

Hello All,

i have a bit of a problem. My rear ujoint broke and I replaced both of them. But now when I go to install them I can only get one end in and the other is too far from the yoke to it get in. I tried jacking it up but still too big of a gap to connect.

Any suggestions would be great.

Oh yea its a 92 yj 6cyl manual.

Thanks.

Did pinion angle change or do you have the jeep on jack stands with the rear axel hanging down?

Well YOu may have to rotate drive shaft a little to get the extra distance, if you have all parts, bolt it to transfer case pinion then try to line up with axel,
how much are you missing by, keep in mind you may have to rotate driveshaft a quarter turn or so depending how the u joint on transfer case is alligned!

on the frame. I had to build my stands up with some 4x4's. It wasn't safe but I trusted it.

hello all,

im still stuck...i was told by a mechanic friend to see if there are wedges in the leaf springs because maybe the kicked out and thats what made the ujoint break. but they are still there.

here are some pictures of the problem...what they show is the opposite end on the driveshaft when connected on either side.

any help is appreciated as always and happy holidays!

ok first off pull the yoke out of the transfer case and get it on the drive shaft. once ur done with that try again. and pull the drive shaft out just a little to get the extra inch or two. and yes the yoke pulls right out of the t case no problems unless its stuck then u have a prob.

u are trying to pull the yoke out of the transfer case and not the axle right. and if its stuck in the t case i dont know how u would get it out cause I'm assuming u dont have sye so should slip right out.

if the yoke is stuck try running a breaker bar through the yoke ends and wiggling it out

hello all,

thank you very much for all the advice...

i finally got it out this morning by tapping the yoke slightly with a hammer.

all seems good!

my only other question is that on the axel end do i not put snap clips in because of the ears that are already there? it seems almost impossible to fit them in.

thanks again and merry Christmas!
