Good afternoon guys. This is my first post - just bought the Jeep on Monday. I hate it to be a problem, but here it is...
Similar to many, I'm experiencing a no start situation with my 95 Rio Grande. Originally, it would need to be cranked about three times to eventually turn over. Until Tuesday evening when I went to start it up after an oil and transfer case fluid change. No luck. It will crank all day without starting. There is no spark.
I read on here that the crank position sensor is known to go on these, so I replaced that first. No change. I then changed the spark plugs, wires, distributor and cap, coil, fuel pump relay, computer fuse underneath the dash, and fuel filter. No luck. No spark no start. Battery is new.
But here's where the strange part comes in. I had a buddy of mine help my try and pop start it. It didn't work. But after trying to pop start it, when I turned the ignition, it would fire right up and run beautifully. Turn it off and let it sit for 15 minutes, and it won't spark again. We tried this three times, and each time, even though pop starting it itself had no effect, I could then start it up. It'll drive all day like that, but if you go and try and start it, no luck. I drove it to Pep Boys, and today, with it in a no spark no start condition, they hooked it to their computer, and they get nothing. My computer and theirs aren't talking. Now, even my pop start technique isn't starting it.
I'm leaning towards the computer. Would a faulty computer lead to the situation I'm experiencing? Do I trust a used one from a junk yard or do I try and buy new? How much are they? Is there anything else I'm missing? Any suggestions would be great. Like I said, I just bought her on Monday and only got one good day of driving out of her (but a good day it was).
