Vacuum hose pop quiz

I kept hearing a loud hissing noise and discovered that a vacuum hose on the intake manifold was cracked, I replaced it. So that peaked my interest. What does the hose off the intake manifold control? I followed the hose over by the battery, I marked where that hose connects to some other branches and noticed a strange hose. The lower arrow points to what I hope is a check valve?? Or is this a broken piece?

Take a look and see if you can tell me what all this controls. I'd like to know what to troubleshoot if something is out of place.

Thanks for your help!

You can trace those back to the T-case and to the front axle. Locks the passenger side front axle in for 4X4.

So the only thing I need to check is that the 4wd will engage?

Well when there are vacuum lines disconnected it may not work. They sell the lines complete end to end. And it should be a 1 hour install and check out. Or you can modify the system
