I think thats the stuff that makes the front axles engage when you shift into four wheel drive, get rid of the Vac. on the front axle an get rid of all that junk!

No, the shift fork for the front axle is vacuum operated ... To make it work without you need to do a posi-lock

You can remove that item on your valve cover, but you need to ensure that you keep certain vacuum hooked up....pcv, dizzy advance, 4x4, and you can keep egr and the canister if you want. If you Google nutter vacuum you should find a bunch of diagrams for how to run the vacuum

Friend... You don't think i tried googling? Every search yields people saying "search for it on Google" in every GD thread. All i can find are guides which don't say anything about what you can eliminate except the obvious.

I have a 89 with 4.2 i did the team rush on the dist. And nutter by pass. I removed every thing but the vaccume for the dist, pcv and 4x4 that went to the carb. (everything) from that ball and fuel canister all the crap on the fire wall and top of the motor. The dist and pcv are simple but make sure you trace the vac lines to the 4x4 shift motor and dont unhook them i bought some caps and splices from napa for the vac lines that i kept and removed.

I am wondering if the 'black ball' stores vacuum for the 4X4 motor, and also possibly the heater controls... I suspect they are vacuum actuated also?

supposedly the heater controls are.

i have removed everything but the line to the 4x4, the line to the distributor, the lines from the valve cover, and the brake and cruise control. no egr, no cto, no vacuum motors on the firewall, no vacuum canister under the battery, no fuel vapor canister, no nothing. jeep runs great and idles perfectly at 650 in gear, 750 in neutral

The only thing I have left that hooks to the carb is pcv, dist, and 4x4. The jeep runs perfect now.

Sorry, what I meant was do do away with the vacuum operated junk on the front axle, as in, lock in the front axle or install a posi-lok system, are install a TJ right side axle! You will Still have 4X4, in fact you will have a more dependable 4X4 system.

Yeap just like a TJ, or you can put a manual [ posi-loc ] in /out shifter on the axle so when you anticipate you will need 4X4 you can leave the axle locked in, but the Tansfer case in 2Hi and pull it in 4Hi as needed. That's what I do!

Well what's the point in unlocking the unlocker if i can still put it in 2 wheel? This sounds like something i want to do. (permanent lock)
