Not to point out the obvious - but it unscrews... drop the skid plate a few inches. support skid plate on a jack, should be able to reach it then. GoodLuck

I replaced mine and didn't have to do anything special. Just crawled under the drivers side and put my hand on it on top of the transfer case. Takes no time at all.

You might want to spray your favorite anti seize/ lube on it first.
To all who serve, Thank You.

Can I trick the vacuum shift switch ?

thanks for the information, guess it will have to wait for spring, to cold and too much rust and no heated garage !. Is there any way to trick the system as to get it back into 4wd. ( it is stuck in 2wd). Can I use a vacuum hand pump in away to force into 4wd. ? Not sure if my problem is the switch or the actuator motor. I use the jeep as a yard truck, and trust me plowing in
2wd just doesn't make it !! appreciate your help

Best way would be to take the actuator off and lock the fork into 4wd position, there is a write up on the yj forum about it! or you can buy a Posi lock for 220.00 and do away with the vacume all together!
92 wrangler yj 4 in lift, sye, posi lock, 35x12.50x15 on outlaw rims. much more to do!!

Bradey the best way is to manual lock the frt. diff. in permanent .
it is very easy and free.
I told Jubilee the steps to do it in the oil level thread on here
and Navychief has pictures of the bypass that makes it even easier
and I am sure he will post them for you again if you ask him.

Or give me a call and I can explain it over the phone to ya.
It will take ya about a hour at most.

And you will never have to worry about the weakest link in the system again.
It will not drive , handle or effect mpg in anyway.
this is how newer jeeps come set up now.
