Yesterday I drove in very heavy rain and had a (what seems to be common) problem with water dripping on the floor from under the dash somewhere. I searched some of the threads here and decided I would clean out the vent in front of the windshield. My drain was clear, and in fact, it doesn't have a drain hose at all.
While looking in the "airbox" under the vent on the hood, I noticed there is a small door on the driver's side. When I move the vent lever from vent to off, the door wouldn't move, but I could see the cable moving. I messed around with it and eventually got it to move closed when shutting the vent off. Does anyone know if the "air box" gets flooded with water and would spill through that door if the door was stuck open?
Also, there appears to be a small door on the passenger side of the "airbox" that never moves with any control position. Does anyone know if it's supposed to move at all? I would think if the heat, defrost, and vent were all off, that door would close also. Can anyone confirm what that door is supposed to do?
My Haynes manual doesn't cover how this system is supposed to work at all.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks for all the help.
