I have water leaking in from under the dash. Pretty sure it shorted out my cd player. Would this be the cowl seal? And how hard is it to replace? Do I need to remove my windshield or just fold it down?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
i had the same problem in my jeep. it is water getting into the vent on your hood and your drain hose is clogged. take a look under your hood and you will see a rubber hose on the left side of the engine coming out of the firewall that just hangs down about a foot. take this off and clean it out and it should solve your problem.
Had this problem with my 94 Wrangler -- water POURING into the cabin from under the dashboard. Replaced the windshield cowl rubber, and it didn't help.
Pulled off that host, and sure enough, it was totally blocked. Thanks for the suggestion!
If you go with a new windshield gasket look some where else besides Quadratec. There gasket is to thin and will not seal. Had to use sealent + gasket to stop the leak.
m having the same problem but my cowl vent is clean. It leaking under my dash by my emergency brake. I can feel water hitting my leg when im driving in rain. Should i buy some water repellant to spray on my wires?? kinda makes me nervous, i dunno where its coming from, i do know my doors leak very slightly but it more of a water rush down by the brakes. Also i see people say having carpet in your jeep isnt a good idea should i take mine out???

had the same problem with mine. Look at the body sealer between the cowl and the tub, mine was cracked and leaking. go to a parts store and get a tube of "Flowable Silicon" run a bead on the out side and allow to dry. should take care of your problem...
like the others said, may want to look at your windshield gasket. carpet? depends on what you want to do with your jeep. your carpet certainly isn't causing the leak.......

I agree with everyone on the windshield cowl and the vent drain hose. Had this same issue.
Carpets not the cause of the leak but it will hold the water/ moisture from the leak causing mildew or the floorboards to rust. Just something to check and clean if you're keeping the carpet.
Removed my carpet and herculined my tub for this reason.
Same leak. I ran a bead of caulk in the windshiekld gasket. Just pulled it open in front of the window frame. AND ran some caulk along the seams where the side body panel parts are joined = terrible leak - GONE !!!
I just purchased a really nice 1994 Wrangler S for my daughters first car. When I picked it up there was water leaking under the dash. I just went out, pulled the hose and there was a lot of water and the end was clogged. Cleaning it was a 2 minute task and now all should be well. Thanks for the help.
Hello, my 95 is also peeing on my foot. It has rained several times since I bought it, with no leaking. This rain seems to have found a way in to my Jeep.
I think I have found the hose that everyone is talking about. As I look at the engine there is a 1.5" diameter hose with a built in tension clamp attached to the firewall to left of the engine. As people have said, its about a foot long.
It is completely clear.
I have also looked up under the dash and cannot find where else the water may be coming from. The windshield seal seems fairly new.
First, am I looking at the right hose? And secondly, what else can I look at?
That's the right hose. I had water pouring on my feet whenever I took a sharp right turn (strange, it only leaked when I turned right). So, after reading this thread, I located the hose under the hood and- sure enough- mine was completely packed with mud. There must have been a gallon of muddy silt and water that poured out of the hose when I cleared the blockage.
My leak seemed to just 'cascade' from the bottom of my dashboard after a rain. I never could find where it was coming from.
Mine was the same way when I bought it a few months ago. The windshield was cracked and the previous owner threw in a new cowl seal he had already bought. I had a new windshield installed, replaced the cowl seal, and made sure the firewall drain was open and now it's pretty dry. Except for the other day when I got caught in a thunderstorm with no doors or windows. It's all part of the Jeep experience. :thumb:
I had the same water problem with my '91 YJ. Water was coming from every seam and button and under the dash. I cleaned out the offending hose, and it was plugged with mud and debris, but, it continued. I read another entry here on the forum from someone that was having the same problem and they had leaks coming from the seal at the top of the windshield where the bikini top folded into the track there, another had a cowl problem, so I replaced the windshield frame and all seals, hinges and even the bolts, siliconed behind them and now, no leak whatsoever.
I have leaks coming from everywhere.... Top of wind shield and behind the dash on drivers side and passengers side. The Philly area got hammered with rain the other week and all that rain ended up shorting out multiple things behind the dash. Fix your leaks as soon as possible!!
Sheesh... Hose is clear, windshield gasket caulked, frame sealed, strip where the soft top hooks in sealed... Radio #2 gone and water still dripping. SMH!!
my Jeep seems to be leaking passenger side near the floor. I can see where the water is dripping in but it doesn't make sense that it is coming from underneath the passenger door, so it is obviously running down from somewhere. The driver's side is always dry as a bone in the rain where passenger side I have to pull up the carpet and pull out the plugs. Am I correct in thinking the cowl seal may need to be checked/redone? Has anyone had this experience before?
drivers side water leak & will not start when it rains
I recently had the front end of my Wrangler pained, from windshield to bumper. Since then when it rains there is water on the drivers side front floorboard and the jeep will not start. It has gotten to where whenever it is wet outside the jeep will not start. Once it dries out a little it starts like a champ.
I also had this issue, nothing I did solved it, I acquired a new windshield frame (which was rotten) and new seals and that seems to have solved that problem, I later found that the water had also destroyed the wiring in the dash guages, and so I had to replace my guages also. I would suggest to anyone else who has this issue, to not just let it ride. It will get kinda expensive.
I also made a water shield for my radio out of some aluminum flashing that I had around, just in case this problem decides to come back at a later date. I riveted it to the steel in the dash and now at least I know my radio is safe.
Replaced my cowl, now my windshield is a half inch further out and instead of leaking from the cowl it now leaks where the windshield meets the door tops.... but I solved the problem
Do not have a vent hose yet have water on both sides of floor
