Weld a transfer case?

I lost my rear u-joint today causing the driveline to destroy my exhaust and crack my transfer case. Has anyone had luck welding one? I would say the crack is 2-3" and does not look like it passes through any seams it bolts. I did test the 4wd by trying to drive it home after removing rear driveline but oil was pouting out so I had it towed. Just wondering if I should buy one or have this one fixed?? Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

I would look for a replacement. You need to be very good to weld aluminum from what I understand. Check craigslist or car-parts.com

It could probably be welded but It would not hold up well. The aluminum is cheap, cheap casted powder aluminum. Making it very hard to weld.

I tried one once on a chance and could never get the weld to bite correctly. If you had a serious professional tig welder they my be able to seal it up.

Not sure it's worth it because used ones are cheap and it would still have to be removed to repair it.

Most likely you broke the tail cone/tail shaft housing very easy to do if you lose the rear joint like you did. I've done it twice its about 50 bucks. It's easier to just replace it.
