Were is the best place to get a new motor?

Engine just blow through the front of my 89 4 cyl wrangler. Where is a good place to start looking for a new power plant? Thanks.

I replaced my 4cylinder with a longblock from ATK. I did the swap about 7-8yrs ago and I think it ran me about $1400. I also have an 89yj.

Jasper is probably the best in USA. probably the most expensive too. Certainly the best with the best unconditional even transferrable warranty tho. JASPER Engines & Transmissions: Remanufactured engine: diesel, marine, import

Pick up a core at the local Pick-and-Pull, and rebuild it yourself....
You can put a better cam and pistons, along with porting out the head.

Youll pretty much have to build it for power, unless you want to upgrade to a 4.0L

Unless you have a donor vehicle it will be quite a bit of parts being bought

Mine burnt the valve from a cracked manifold. At about 4000 rpm trying to go down the highway it finally broke and dropped the exhaust valve on the 4th cylinder.

no no no no no. even if you could bolt it up the torque of a 4.0 would destroy it in no time. i used to have a cherokee that had a 2.8 and the ax-5. the previous owner used it just as a daily driver, never wheeled it, and broke the countershaft.

if you do a 4.0 swap you'd need an ax-15 which was stock behind these motors. you can also find them in v6 dodge dakotas, then you'd also need a jeep bellhousing as the dodge motor is a different pattern. also you need either the transfer case from an ax-15 or a new input gear for your stock transfer case. the ax-5 has a 21 spline output shaft while the ax-15 has a 23 spline.

there are literally millions of 4.0's out there as they put them in wranglers, cherokees, and grand cherokees so finding one should be cake. the wrangler was the most common 5 speed application though so the ax-15 might be a little tricky to find in the junkyard.

Titan Engines in Ocala, FL. They have 3 year 36,000 mile warr. and have styles from stock to Stroker. They will work with you on add ons.( ignition, intake etc.) even install them for you. Cam sizes are customer choice. Find them on E-bay.

I got a 4.2 from jeepenginesales.com. They carry almost all jeep engines and have a great warranty. I want to say they have a 1 year unlimited mileage and 7 years limited on the 2.5. Prices vary a bit but the 2.5 is about 1700 including 399.00 for the core that you get back when you send yours in. I have had no problems with my engine after a year of use(110.6 miles round trip to work 5 days a week).
