Went to drop the tank skid plate on my 89 YJ the tank came with it, it appears that there are a couple of strap bolts broken off. So is the tank held up by straps like most other vehicals or is it held up by the skid plate and the broken strap bolts bolt through the skid plate?
its been a while, but i think the skid plate holds it up.
"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president." http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data...re_cowbell.gif
most straps break or rust over time. A good strong skid plate will hold it just fine. If its rusted or battered, then replace it. You dont want to take any chances. I had a nice thick stainless one made at a machine shop. It looks great and its thicker than stock.
Just make sure you get the correct straps. An 89 has either a 15 or 20 gal tank. If you have a 2.5 you most likely have a 15 gal., a 4.2 20 gal. They're two different sizes in 89, unlike later models which used the same size tank but utilized an insert to block off putting in an extra 5 gals. of fuel.
